The delegation indicated that Guyana has noted these recommendations and was voluntarily committed to consult and report on the results of the consultative process. In this regard, the delegation pointed out that consultations in Guyana were on-going on a draft Education Bill which included discussion on the issue of corporal punishment. Furthermore, Guyana has tabled amendments to the Training School Act and the Juvenile Offenders Act to remove corporal punishment from juvenile detention centres, which demonstrated Guyana's commitment to protecting children from all forms of abuse. These bills will be debated in October 2010 in the National Assembly. The delegation also emphasized that the Protection of Children Act 2009, the Domestic Violence Act 1997 and the Child Care Protection Agency offered a legislative and administrative framework to protect children from abuse. | 5 - Specific action | Supported |
